One of a kind I first came to Granada back in January 2003. I studied Spanish at a private language school there, and during my stay I fell in love with now only a city but also with a - for me so - differen lifestyle, the relaxed afternoons at a bar having a beer or maybe the Spanish "tinto de verano" with it's tapas. I fell in love with the people, the culture - well - with everything, so my - supposed - three months stay ended up being 4½ wonderful years in the Spanish city that in an amazing way is able to connect the oldtime islamic culture with the Spanish lifestyle and the influence from the international atmosphere due to the many foreign studens.

Granada have a population at about 250.000 persons, for me it is not too big nor too little. It has it's own fabulous atmosphere with the Alhambra and the Albaizcin as two of the most amazing parts. Granada is also one of the only locations in Spain where you can get free tapas - you can actually dine there only paying your for what you drink!
Granada has a university that every year attract a great number of international students to the city - therefore it is most likely for any turist from all over the world to meet here someone of their own nationality. It happens to all of us!!
Granada is located just "below" of Sierra Nevada which make the city worth a visit also durring wintertime, and if you like skiing it is a nice place to be located - going out durring the afternoon/evening and skiing in the mountains durring the day. Durring the months of july and august Granada gets very hot - 40degrees Celsius is not uncommon - and higher temperatures can be seen, so if you go durring the summer months (which I can NOT recomend) be sure to always wear bottled water and sunlotion. The best time to visit is the months of april-may-june or september-october-november when the city is not too cold nor too warm to be staying in.
Any questions - feel free to send me an email and I will try to answer as good as I can using my best knowledge!! :-) |
I dont think it would be right to have a page on Granada without a pic of Alhambra on the frontpage - so here it is, Alhambra seen from the Albaicin.
Check out my Travelogue for more pictures of the Alhambra
