Tortosa is a large town in southern Catalonia and through which the River Ebre
runs. Southern Catalonia was occupied by the Arabs for much longer than was the
case in the North, however they were finally expelled some 800 years ago.
However, the Arab imprint can still be seen in the architecture and names of
older towns and villages. The legacy of the three cultures (Muslim, Jewish, and
Christian) found in Catalonia at that time is very much in evidence in Tortosa's
old town.

Tortosa is now the largest town in the Ebre region. It is rich in folklore and
its inhabitants speak a distinctive Catalan dialect

Tortosa és un poble, gairebé una ciutat situada en el sud de Catalunya. El riu Ebre passa per dins del casc urbà. La ciutat va estar molt e temps dominada pels àrabs, i en queden força testimonis, com els noms de carrers. Ara, es poden veure els llegats de les tres cultures que hi van conviure durant molt de temps: àrab, jueva i cristiana. Ara, Tortosa és la ciutat més gran de les terres de l'Ebre, una comarca particular de Catalunya, amb un tarannà i folklore molt propi.
