Salisbury Delights

Salisbury is in the South West of England & heaped with history. When people think of Salisbury, they immidiately think of Stonehenge. The original name for Salisbury was Serum as the Normans called it, it was also called Soverodonium by the Romans. On the outskirts is an old ruined castle where the city once was, it is also an Bronze Age hill fort.

From this windswept mount you can see across the fields towards the spire of the maganificent Cathedrel, this is the 1st thing most people see when approaching the city. The Cathedrel was first laid in 1220 & finished in 1258, here is where the Magna Carter is & the world's oldest clock still operated by its original weights & pullies (loud too). Cathedrel Close is one of the biggest close's in England with many museums & fine houses including, The Red Coats Wardrobe for all you army enthusiats, The Kings House home of Salisbury Museum & a naked ghostly monk. & Mompesson House which once had the Ledgend of the Tidworth Drummer. Every Tues and Sat there is a local market, the oldest in England. There is also Wessex Shire Horses owned by John Webb. This is a horse drawn omnibus for tourists, there are two rides to choose from: the river ride or the town trip. There is a cinema is the city called the Odeon & has open fireplaces & original armour from the civil war. Salisbury is only an hrs drive from Bournmouth.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Lots of shops, pedestrianised, parks are nice, 60 mins from the sea.
  • Cons:Not much seating in bad weather, one way system
  • In a nutshell:Good for historical stuff, intresting monuments especially Stonehenge
