Childhood favourite

The old port of Teignmouth is one of the country's most popular holiday resorts. I have been coming here with my parents for yrs, & I intend to do so with my children. The pier which dates from 1865 recently celabrated its birthday last year, well worth a visit.

Teignmouth has a working port, each evening at 10pm a gun fires off to let the smaller boat's know that the fishing vessels are coming out. Along the seafront are flower beds & cafe's, there is also tennis courts, a crazy golf area & a swimming pool more frequented by seagulls then humans. There is also a bowling green & a lighthouse. Sometimes during storms the sea can come crashing over the wall, anyone who car is parked in the Point car park is liable to get a wash!

At night a string of coloured lights come on which is really pretty, I just lurve the sound of them seagulls but hate the flying missiles they drop. You must visit Shaldon just over the water, lovely peachful village. Each year they have a boat Regatta, everyone takes part & the whole village comes alive. There is a small zoo on Shaldon, also there is a long smugglers Tunnal leading down to a secluded beach.

Teignmouth is a georgus place in the summer, it also suffered badly during the war, & two books to read are called teignmouth at War by Viv Wilson. The shopping is good & so Is the pier, which is described in my other chapters.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Pedetrianised shopping area, cream teas (most definetly),
  • Cons:Audience of seagulls watching your every mouthful, flying bombs, not enough time to see everything
  • In a nutshell:Seaside heaven, well worth a visit :)
