So finally, after a year worked at my job, I had the opportunity to travel. Albeit for a very short amount of time. So, given my time constraints and budgetary limitations, I decided to do a domestic trip. I chose to visit Seattle and actually, I squeezed in Victoria, British Columbia too, which would then make my vaca half international, no? But does Canada really count? Anyway, Seattle had been on my "Cities in America to Visit" list for quite some time and I thought now was the opportune time visit. And man, talk about perfect timing because the duration of my trip, I saw nothing but blue skies and sunshine. None of the grey clouds and sprinkles they'd have you believe. Yippy!
Before departing, I had already planned everything out. I knew exactly where I was going to stay and what I was going to do and see. For the first time ever, I was gonna hostel it (for both Seattle and Victoria). I was also intending on catching some live music. You see, one of the things that attracted me to Seattle was the fact that grunge music a.k.a., hard rock originated there. Back in the 90's (like it was so long ago), I use to listen to KROQ all the time - the L.A. alternative music radio station, which would oftentimes play Nirvana and Pearl Jam - both Seattle bands. So wow! How cool would it be to see for myself where it all started. So that was part of the plan. The other, was of course to sightsee and take in as much as I could of Seattle. Big task. Not surprisingly, wasn't accomplished, which gives me a great reason to go back.
~~~~~~~~
My impressions of Seattle? A very cool place in terms of diversity of things to do / attractions, public transpo system, and friendly folks. However, the only thing that kept me wondering was cultural diversity. Where was it? I didn't really have time to venture off to the university areas, but everywhere else - downtown and some suburbs, seemed like the only ethnic groups present were actually newly emigrated people. Didn't really see any African-Am, Asian-Am, Latino/as, etc. Hm, maybe it was just me?
KiKitC Thu Oct 22, 2009 11:27 UTC Awesome tips. Gotta see that "troll bridge" and the underground tour. Thanks for the great tour. | emilesc Fri Oct 6, 2006 17:26 UTC Great Seattle page. That's good to know there's a cheaper alternative to the Space Needle. Hostel seems kind of expensive, though! But I guess that's Seattle for ya. | VdV Fri Sep 15, 2006 07:23 UTC Hey Fatima; Sounds like you enjoyed your Seattle trip! Your HI tip is great; and yes! BlueC in Fremont! Thumbs up! Hope you're well.--V |
