SEQUOIA & KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARK

by Phalaenopsis03 - last update: Mar 29, 2004

Dumdidumdidum....it's spring break. What to do, what to do? Welp, after having spent $400 on my mom's car, which broke down twice in one week, I didn't really have too many options with such limited funds. Alrighty, maybe "limited" is an understatement, more like lack of funds. But hey, that wasn't gonna deter me from taking advantage of all this free time. So, how 'bout me and me go on a little road trip? Sounds good!

The original plan was to take the self-guided motor tour of Fresno County's Blossom Trail. After all, both the brochure and the website on this did say that March was the perfect time to go on the drive.

So I drive some few hundred miles north of Los Angeles. On the way up state highway 99, I noticed orchards. Many of them; many of them with no blossoms. Hmmm, hoping they weren't reflective of what I was so looking forward to see.

Ok, so I get to Fresno. Looked at the Blossom Trail brochure I got from the LA Travel Show back in February. The map printed on the back of it was freak'n wrong and I got lost searching for the start of the trail. I think that was a sign right there. Anyway, I was still determined to see the dam*n blossoms at any cost!

I drove and drove and drove; for miles and miles around acres and acres of orchards. I guess in the back of my warped mind I thought I was bound to see blossoms, although the many orchards I had passed up revealed there were none. So I eventually gave up. Shoot! I'm gonna write to the Fresno Chamber of Commerce people and complain. What's up with that?!?!

Consequently, go to alternate plan: drive to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park. At this point, it was getting close to noon. I had no luck with the Blossom Trail, but surely Sequoia NP would provide me with more fulfillment.

to be continued.
