My mother and I visited Greece when I was just four years old in 1979. Unfortunately, I have no recollections of the vacation, but do have this photo as a memento of the travel. Thankfully however, 24 years later, I did come back and was able re-create memories my adult mind should not soon forget.
In my limited travels, I consider Greece as one of my top three favorite countries visited (the other two being Thailand and Japan). Greece is a juxtaposition of both old and new; traditional and modern without sacrificing any one for the other. Indeed it's history, culture, landscapes, and people make Greece a fantastic vacation destination.
I came to Greece just a year before the 2004 summer olympics. As such, many of the areas in Athens were under construction. Scaffolding was everywhere and even on some monuments. =( Lukily though, their public transportation system was revamped by this time and so my travel partner and I were able to make use of the subway system, which I must say is probably one of the best in the world - a total pleasure to use.
Please note, I've consolidated most of my photos of Greece into my Travelogues below. However, I made separate pages for Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini, which you can click on to go directly to. |
