Great sunset with silver leaf monkey - Kuala Selangor

Kuala Selangor is well-known for fireflies hangout on certain trees by the river. Beside that it is a great hangout for seafood and the Nature Park (signposted as Taman Alam) is a good hangout for birders nd naturalists.

I usually drive there at about 3pm for birding, viewing sunset, seafood dinner and then fireflies viewing.

If you do not have a car then you can take a bus at Klang Bus Station near Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. Travel time about 1.5hrs from Kuala Lumpur.

There are tours from Kuala Lumpur as well.

The seafood meal is cheap and delicious. It cost about RM20 p/p compared to RM35 p/p in Kuala Lumpur. For a seafood meal, you nedd to travel about 3km to the north ie road to Tanjung Karang (signpost) and turn left when you see a row of shophouses and turn left again at the T-junction. On this road there are many seafood restaurant. My usual is River View at the end of this road. It is on stilt with Selagor River mouth view. If you do not have any idea what to order, they have set meals for 6-10 persons costing RM100 - RM500. Otherwise you can order kam heong crab, sweet and sour crab, chili crab, drunken prawn, steam prawn, steam pomfret teochew style, mussels, calamari etc.

Nature Park (Taman Alam)

Milky storks

This park runs by Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) with chalets. Many local birders hangout with the birds in the weekend. There are about 150 species of bird found here - sea eagle, brahmin kite, milky stork, egret etc. Best time are morning and evening.

There are also mudskeeters upto 6in long and monitor lizard. There are a two colonies of macque and silver leaf monkey.

Just follow Taman Alam signpost to reach this place.

You can contact MNS for booking and other activities.

There is bike rental in the park.

After that you can go up the Melawati Hill for viewing sunset. There is a lighthouse on top.

Viewing fireflies is at Kampung Kuantan about 10km from Kuala Selangor. You can take a taxi. Best time after 9.30pm where most tour groups have gone.

The boat ride is an experience by itself. The boat accom. 4 persons and row by a local.

It is difficult to take pic. cos. boat shakes and flash will drive away the fireflies.

excellent overview of Kuala Selangor. First time I have heard of the Taman Alam, and would be nice to check it out. :)

Great page. I guess not many ppl can really catch the fireflies picture thing. Been there many times, just never catch some proper pics.
