In continuous progress... (and procrastination) | Getting all bubbly at the Mercier Champagne-caves |
In December 2005 I went to Hanoi once again. My brother finally got married! My sister-in-law is a girl he met in Hanoi 2 years ago... Talking about once-in-a-lifetime coincidences. She's the niece of the driver who guided us through the magnificent North-West Tour (www.handspan.com). Now she's staying here in Brussels and finishing her final assignment. Maybe after that I might turn aunt any time soon??? (just a wild guess)
Before the Vietnamese wedding ceremony on Dec. 26, I made a stop-over of a short week in Kuala Lumpur. Unlike other major cities as Bangkok, Beijing or Hanoi in S-E-Asia I didn't really catch the vibe of this vibrant, modern city. But perhaps my mind and heart were too troubled to truly enjoy this last big journey.
I'm not sure what this year will bring. Probably not heading that far and I might be skipping Asia this year. My bank account needs a break I think. This spring I'm seeking my R&R somewhat closer to home, in the Champagne-region of France.
From Sept. 16 'till Sept. 28 I'll hit the Portuguese soil for the first time! Backpacking from Lisbon to Porto and then going southwards along the coastline (no concrete itinerary yet), with Evora as our last stop. I wonder how budget travelling in Europe will turn out! I'm actually quite keen on my basic luxuries (clean bathrooms, no bedbugs & good food! :-)

| I heart Starbucks!!! (HongKong, Oct. 2005) |
| | More about My In 2002 I graduated from uni in Communication Sciences and after one very long and dreadful year of temping, I found a job as a Jr Executive in a marketing company. I love my colleagues and the job content, but the downside is: it doesn't allow me to travel as often as I 'd like...
The travel bug infected me two years ago and ever since, I haven't felt at ease if I haven't been abroad for a while... Other things I like apart from daydreaming are: eating out, catching a movie, following street dance courses, going to punkrockgigs once in a while, surfing the web, being a couch-potato etc....

Dragon-... Dragonfruit: a cactus fruit originating from Latin America, currently cultivated in South East Asia and Middle East. If you 'd ever happen to be in Hanoi, remember to drop by Tamarind Café / Handspan Restaurant in 80, Ma May Street for a deliciously refreshing cocktail with dragonfruit... [Thanh Long = fruit du dragon]

| | Dragon, also referring to... In Vietnamese, Ha means "descend", and "Long" means "dragon", so the word Ha Long means "where the dragon descends into the sea". Legend has it that the islands of Ha Long Bay were created by a giant dragon who lived in the mountains. As he ran towards the coast, his flailing tail gouged out valleys and crevasses; as he plunged into the sea, the areas dug up by his tail became filled with water, leaving only bits of high land visible. The bay is even said to be inhabited by a mysterious marine creature of gargantuan proportions known as the Tarasque.
