London Trip February 2003

We tend to pop for a weekend break in London once or twice a year. In February 2002 half term we decided to take a couple of days break to celebrate our daughter's 12th birthday by seeing a show. We were able to get a great deal on Virgin Trains...4 of us, return with a family railcard, for about £60 (which is cheaper than taking the car, and so much easier on the stress levels). We left Prestatyn at 06:50 and were pulling up in Euston at 10am, which is great. We had booked a family room in the Comfort Inn, Vauxhall, which was just a short tube ride away, so we purchased a family day pass, saving us quite a lot on the individual fares. Once we had off loaded our bags at the hotel, we headed off to Leicester Square where we managed to get last minute tickets to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang that evening! We spent the afternoon in the Science Museum, before returning to the hotel to change, before dinner and the show (which was awesome!)
The second day we spent at the Imperial War Museum, followed by dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe (a family favourite!), and we rounded off the trip with a wander round some of the landmarks on the Sunday morning, taking in Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace etc., before returning to Euston for the train home.

London Trip May 2003

This time we were en route to a family wedding, minus the kids, so we decided to spend a day and night in London, in order to visit the Titanic Artefacts exhibition at the Science Museum. Used the train again, and this time stayed in Kensington, in the Kensington Close Hotel after getting a room for £49 through an online discount booking agent. We once again managed to get show tickets, this time for Les Miserables at the Palace Theatre, and although the whole day was one enormous rush, it was very enjoyable.
