Disneyland Paris

Our trip to Disneyland Paris 2000

Cinderella's Castle
We visited Disneyland Paris with our 4 children in August 2000. We travelled to Paris on a coach with Leger travel, on a package trip which was actually very reasonable!
Our trip was for 2 nights in the 3 star Hotel Cheyenne, but a few days before departure we were upgraded into the Newport Bay Club, a 4 star Disney hotel, which was situated closer to the action!
The journey down from North Wales was long and tedious, as the coach had to make several pick ups along the way! We hopped over the channel on the short sea crossing from Dover to Calais, and then back on the coach for the drive down to Paris! On arriving at the hotel that evening, we were so shattered we fell into bed, ready to make an early start the following morning!

The Park

Having visited Disneyland Paris previously in 1997, and Disney World in Orlando in 1999, we were already familiar with the layout and the nature of Disney parks, but that feeling of excitement and magic never goes away, as you approach the park and the atmosphere starts to build up. There are some definite advantages to the Paris park compared to the Orlando park:

1. more characters wandering about, rather than just positioned in set locations at set times.
2. the park is smaller and easier to
navigate, yet appears more spacious
3. Some of the rides are better eg. Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain.

But there are also some obvious disadvantages:

1. The French staff are not a patch on the American staff, who really get into the mood of it all.
2. The food in the park is poor and expensive, in comparison.
3. Disney to me equates with the American way of life, and suffers somewhat in translation!

Nevertheless, a great time was had by all!
