To be sure, to be sure...

Why haven't I been here before?

Houses in Limerick
As you can see from my travel map, I've visited many countries; mostly in western Europe. So, being that is is so close, why have I not visited Ireland before?

I don't know the answer. I only visited Scotland for the first time in February 2007. Maybe other countries, not so close to home, held a greater appeal. If that were the case, I was wrong. Ireland turned out to be amazing.

A week to remember.
Elephants at Dublin Zoo

Dublin

We started in Dublin, flying here from Stansted (London). Three days here turned out to be sufficient to sample the different activities and sights the city had to offer.

The zoo and Phoenix Park, where the zoo is located, provided a whole day's entertainment, and exploring the shops and sights in the city was also great.

Check out my Dublin page for more information.

Limerick and Tipperary

Limerick city turned out to not be the tourist spot we had hoped, but the castle was very interesting. There were other attractions that we couldn't fit in to our single day here.

County Tipperary turned out to be the highlight of our trip. This is somewhere I would definitely like to visit again.
We stayed at a hostel on a farm, and arrived just in time to see piglets being born. Two of those piglets are now named after myself and my friend.

The attractions nearby included the Rock of Cashel and the Michelstown Caves. Both highly recommended. And of course we visited Tipperary town, which doesn't have any tourist activities, but we can say that we've been there now.

See my Limerick and Tipperary pages for more information.

Pros:"Loads of unspoilt countryside, English speaking, lots to do."
Cons:"Badly maintained roads (although a lot of improvements are taking place), badly signposted roads, weather like the UK."
In A Nutshell:"Beautiful sights, if a slightly bumpy ride to reach them."
