Belfast in a day.

by tekiegirl - last update: Aug 24, 2008

Victoria Square shopping centre, Belfast

Whistle-stop tour.

We had only one day in Belfast city, and it included our arrival at the airport at 9am. Our planning for the day took place on the bus from the airport to the city centre.

After dumping our bags at the hostel we wondered into the city centre to have a look around, and also to find the Lagan Boat Company tours. This seemed like a good way to see the city along the river and learn about its history; and we were right. See my things to do tip for more information.

Most of the city seems to be being rebuilt. From the viewing gallery in Victoria Square shopping centre (see shopping tips) we could see over a dozen cranes, working all around the city. There is a lot of regeneration taking place.
Giants' Causeway, County Antrim

Where else to see?

We decided as we had two days in Northern Ireland to spend one in Belfast and one visiting sights elsewhere.
As we were staying at Paddy's Palace (see accommodation tips), we were told about the Paddywagon day tours to the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, Giants Causeway and Derry (Londonderry), with a photo stop at Dunluce Castle. It was really great value at £18 (Aug 2008), and took in five different sights. See my things to do tip for more information (there are many different tours available, from 1-10 days). See also my Derry page.

In A Nutshell:"Beautiful and unspoilt coast, with plenty to see and do."
