Matnog, Sorsogon

My Father's home town, 645 kms away from Manila. It is located at the southern tip of Luzon. It is also known as the gateway to the south of the Philippines where the ferry terminal is found.
Generally, the climate is pleasant the whole year round with only two pronounced seasons; rainy (july - december) and dry (january - june). Bicol is the local dialect. Being at the gateway between Visayas and Luzon through the Bicol region, Sorsogon's brand of Bicol, however, is the unique mixture of the Visayas & Bicol dialects. For languages, most of the natives can speak English and Filipino. There is also smattering Spanish. Infact, the local dialect has a liberal sprinkling of Spanish words and at times, colloquially corrupted.

Map of Sorsogon

The province is gifted with various attractions, starting with the natural wonder of Bulusan Mountain Lake, perched in the crater of a still active volcano. Dubbed as “The Switzerland of the Orient” by foreign visitors, who compare its beauty to the famous mountain lakes of Central Europe.

Numerous sandy white beaches are also found in Matnog. Subic island is the most popular place and it is mostly compared to Boracay.
