This tip is about the world's longest urinal. And it's not every day you can write that. Each year from 1998, the world's longest urinal has been constructed for use at the start of the New York Marathon. I was very relieved to use it myself when I ran the New York Marathon in 2002. Some complain that the 290 feet of PVC tubing is sexist statement, as there are no similar facilities for women - but it must relieve the pressure, so to speak. Rather worringly there is a whole website dedicated to the temporary structure and even a glossy book - with fold out section ! I therefore thank Dan Wood for the use of the photograph from the website listed below

In a country that has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world, and where the right to bear arms is enshrined in the constitution it is refreshing to see a statue that puts forward a more peaceful message. This evocative statue, partly to celebrate the life of John Lennon can be found near the UN buildings. Indeed the UN supports an anti-guns stance as can be seen from this document : "We strongly endorse community initiatives ... to encourage the disarming of civilians...." - Our Global Neighborhood, published in 1995 by the UN-funded Commission on Global Governance.
