  • Favorite Thing: There are some interesting bits and pieces to look at around this place. I will try and write a tour at some point, but for the moment check out www.Bostonuk.com who have put together a number of walking tours on their excellent website.

General Tips: The party in the park

  • Favorite Thing: The 'party in the park' has been going for a few years now - but I'm actually intending to go for the firstime this year. It's held in central park, Boston (see another tip).

As a free festival you can't expect too much, but there does seem a good mix of music styles from mostly local outfits. It ranges from classical to jazz, from folk to heavy metal.
There also seem to be several tribute bands including Status Quote - perhaps work is running short in Skegness.

It's on 12/13th of July all day, with fireworks on the Sunday evening.

Check out the programme on the BBC Lincolnshire site.

    STOP PRESS : It's on again - 9th 10th and 11th of July

Fondest Memory: Went on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Good atmosphere, with good age range. Brining your own booze seemed the best option as the beer tent was overwhelmed.

Lots of has about - the police seemed to be pursueing a softly-softly approach.

The fireworks on the sunday night were impressively on the large side, but only lasted a few minutes - perhaps a case of wham bang thank-you maam.

  • Favorite Thing: I love the unusual road names that crop up - around Boston, such a Slippery Gowt Road (the road out to the council refuse tip), Pipe Office lane and the poetic 'Spain Lane'. There is also "mountains passage' (completely flat) and 'Muster Roll lane'.

I also like the combination of road names you can take in as you walk up West street from the station towards town :
You come across 'James Street', but then after Pipe office lane comes 'Bond Street'!

I'm sure both roads pre-date the films, but I would love to know if there is any connection.

General Tips: Home of a comic film genius

  • Favorite Thing: "Old mother Riley" the Irish washerwoman was a comic creation of Arthur Lucan.
Arther was born as Arthur Towle in 1885 in the small village of Sibsey, near Boston.

He moved to Boston with his family when he was five. It was Shodfriars Hall (which housed a theatre) within sight of his home, that first saw Arthur first trod the boards. The Hall still exist, but only now houses a snooker hall and shops.

He went on to top the bill at variety theatres all over the country, and made 15 films.

He was buried in Hull. Itseems a shame that to my knowledge there is nothing commemorating him in Boston.

Boston has some strong competition in the US for having the most obese people. Neverthless it looks like a great place to live.

OH My gosh.. this was way too funny! Well, anything that even remotely refers to anyone as a 'chav' is waaaaay to funny!

Apparently Boston has just been voted the most obese place in the UK! What'll those chavs do when they can't fit into their Peugeot 106's anymore...!!?
