Broadway theatre: The play is the thing
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Nightlife Spot: Broadway theatre

Peterborough used to have a very impressive teatre in the form of the 'Emabssy'. Despite the efforts of Ken Dodd it closed. The building still exists, but is now filled with bars for chavs.

The development corportaion in a stunning piece of forward thinking, considered that the 'Key' was enough for Peterborough's cultural needs. At less than 400 seats, some would argue it was ample in the cultural desert that Peterborough is. It was always too small to attract the big name performers and shows.

Things have improved in the last few years with the creation of the 'Broadway theatre' (it stands on the road of the same name). It was formed out of the old multi-screen Odeon cinema that closed down when the multiplex was opened at Fengate.

It is a fine venue, and whilst Sourbuggers loves to visit to remind himself of teenage fumblings in the back row, you might be able to catch a good show.

There is a mix of professional productions, pantomine at Christmas (he's behind you !), comedians on tours and tribute acts ('The Karpenters - I ask you, how sad is that ?)

An interesting visit to your hometown. Peterborough seems like a very nice place to get lost

It's still there?? I remember swimming there in the 60's and 70's. I think I did a 20 mile walk to raise money for the "new" indoor pool round the back :)
