Claims to be state of the art

Being part of the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire, a tram system for the proletariot was a necessity. 30kms of tracks are now in operation, with more planned in the future.

Probably most useful for the route between the Meadowhall shopping complex (free parking) and the Centre via the Don Valley Stadium / Arena it claims to be a 'state of the art' supertram.

It maybe fairly swift, but it didn't feel very 'super' when waiting ages in a chilling Yorkshire wind for one of the damn things to turn up on Castle Square. Every 10 minutes ? My arse.

At Meadowhall there were signs saying a 'dayrider' was the princely sum of One pound 80p. You can travel all-day on the system for that. Once on board (all trams have a good old-fashioned conductors) I found out it had risen to all of two pounds 70p. That is what comes with giving the operation of the service to a buch of capitalist free-marketeers like 'Stagecoach'.

Another thing I noticed. In London, you can normally hear a pin-drop on a crowded tube train. On a Shefield tram, being in the more freindly north, the tram was filled with noise of 101 conversations going on.
