First an apology, there are several Stansted's in England and I hope that this particular one was meant to refer to the village in Essex that became the site of what may well end up as the largest airport in England.
I can remember it's quite humble origins in the late 1980's when it consisted if a few huts from the ex-air base (not unlike Hahn airport nerar Frankfurt). It only dealt with about 300,000 people a year.
With the building of the stunning terminal (i'll write more about it later) it was completely transformed. It only however really took off when the low-cost airlines led by Ryanair began to use the airport. Now, like the other London airport it's bursting at the seems. |

PavlH Tue Dec 4, 2007 10:44 UTC But I like being slapped across the face with a cold fish... Used Stansted Airport shed in 1989 and then the terminal a fair few years later - it really was a stunning improvement | SabrinaSummerville Thu Jan 18, 2007 17:30 UTC In Camden shopping tips, is "Egytomania" a typo?
