Come back now ! This port town was kown as 'Queenstown' in the past - after a visit by Queen Victoria.
It was the last departure point for the 'Titanic' ship before it had a problem with a few Ice cubes in the atlantic.
It was also the point of departure for some 3 million Irish emigrants - the majority moving to the united states.
It must have been heatbreaking to leave you homeland from such a beautiful corner of the country.
Many of them had a 'wake' on their last night in Ireland, as they were 'dead' to the land of their birth. Their only memory of Cobh was probably a hangover.
With those sort of connections the attractive town now has a healthy tourist trade. |
