Dallas

by geanster - last update: Oct 6, 2003

I suppose I live in Dallas.

Driving East
Skyline at night

I suppose one could say that I have a problem with commitment. I've been "staying" in Dallas, Texas now since 1999, but I still consider myself in transit. Dallas is temporary, I've yet to find the place I want to call home. Yes, I'm still a Kentucky girl, but I don't know if I could manage moving there for the duration either.

I've lived in Texas since 1995 when I came here for university. Basically all of my adult life. One very positive thing I can say about the area is that it's great for my age group. It's a rather young city and even though you'll find local's, I dare say you'll meet just as many transplants from other places. One thing some Texans Love to say is "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could." I don't exactly feel that way. But it has been a good place to spend some years.

(The Skyline at night photo isn't your typical Dallas view as far as the water's concerned. My theory is that a very skilled photographer found the perfect angle at a nearby river to catch this shot.)

"Dallas" is huge. It's the Metroplex and is extremely spread out. I'm biased in that I prefer the actual Dallas area, anywhere outside of a 20 minute drive turns into Generica America by my standards.
The same boring suburbs with the same meat market clubs with the same people dressed the same way looking to get married and live in the same identical cookie-cutter houses that look directly into the window's of the other other cookie-cutter houses. The same identical shopping centers with a few miles in between each one.

But it's a place for people to live I suppose. I just prefer the personality and creativity of the city.

Yes, Dallas can be incredibly hot! But then you go inside. The perfect time to be here is during april before the heat comes along and during October when the weather decides to be perfect again. I'd say around the 70's during those specific times if you're lucky. :) Some people don't realize how cold it gets here during the winters though. It's a very biting cold that goes directly through anything you're wearing so if you're here during the colder season, do bring something warm to wear.

If planning a trip through Dallas, I hope you'll gain something useful from my page and tips and if you have any questions at all, Please feel free to ask!

I learned to read and write better than that when I was in the first grade. There is no apostrophe in a plural. Illiteracy is a terrible thing.
