Rediscovering VT!

by geanster - last update: Jul 21, 2009

I get to see Anthony Bourdain!!! I'm so excited! :) I bought tickets last night to see him speak and simply can't wait.

I haven't had much time for VT lately. I'm a full time employee, full time graduate student, freelance designer, ETC. But it's summer, and I'm taking time for ME.

I'm planning a trip to Florida in 2 weeks. Thanks to those of you who answered questions when I was researching Monterey/Carmel in California... unfortunately, the condo came through closer to Key West which was the other area I kept debating... But I've kept all of the information and will hopefully have the opportunity to use it before too long!

We're going to Pompano Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Key Largo & Key West... I'm interested in checking out Boca Raton and Key Biscayne as well! I think we're close enough for day trips to most. I'm open to any advice or ideas and thanks to Pchamlis for his responses about the area!

I guess I should find out what to do in case of Hurricane?!

It's good to check in on my old VT friends! TTFN

Hi Everyone! It's been quite awhile since I've updated this page, but I wanted to check in and let you know I'm still around. :) I'm still in Kentucky.

January 6, 2006
Hey Everyone! Wow, it's been over a year since I took the time to post a new entry! How's everyone's 2006 So far?!?! Fantastic I hope! I rang my new year in from a hot tub in the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. Watched the sun come up on the day from there too. Beautiful. I'm still living in Kentucky and enjoying it alot more. I'm still taking French lessons. I'm really not that proficient yet, but I'd be open to anyone wanting to help me practice!

I haven't taken any big fun trips. Money hasn't allowed for it. I've taken mini-trips though. Things like the NCAA Championship games in Indianapolis, Indiana to watch the univ. I work at play University of Kentucky. Went to Chicago for a Boston Red Sox versus White Sox game which was great! Went to Lallapalooza while there. Billy Idol, Weezer, etc. Rocked my socks off! :)

Just survived the holiday's and classes don't start till the 17th of January so I'm taking it easy till the students come back. Hope everyone's having a fantastic start to the year! I'll try to update more this year. Try... Take care everyone!

My first VT Meet!

This was my first VT meet and it happened on Friday, May 23, 2003 at the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport. :) Geisha_Girl was on her way to New York City and had a layover in Dallas for just around 3 hours so Jim35 and his friend Erica, Kodi01 and myself met up for some Lemon Drops and a good time. OH and of course, George stopped by for a drink in honor of the Geisha as well. Unfortunately, it set the record for shortest VT meeting of all time so hopefully, the next will be longer.

Thanks to Jim35 for letting me nab this photo from him for awhile. His photoshop talents are obvious!

About moi...

I'm happiest when exploring new territories. :) I grew up in a very small town in Kentucky and even though we'd take a yearlly vacation usually to florida or something, it wasn't until I met some cool English guys that I discovered the love of travel. I was 16 when I met these guys and 17 the next summer when I went to England to meet up with them and some other friends I'd made. We also spent a couple of weeks in Scotland that summer. I've been very lucky with my trips in that I'm always with locals. Most of my connections came from university, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Fiji was with an old roommate and close friend from there. Africa was with South African friends, Nova Scotia was as well. Mexico, etc. It is a good way to save money, but more importantly, it's a wonderful way to pick up an authentic local perspective!

Some of the best days of my life have been spent canoeing in the boundary waters between Minnesota and Canada. In highschool, I'd go to a church camp up there that lasted 3 weeks. It was in Orr, MN and when I wasn't a camper, I was a highschool staffer, then a college staffer.

I went to school to get a real job, but after my internship, I realized that if I got a real job, I wouldn't be able to take off on a whim. Therefore, I decided to freelance a bit. So I'm in the perfect situation now. Lower income, Higher freedom. It works for me at the moment. I'm just constantly saving for the next adventure. Next on my list is probably New Zealand. One of my friends from my South AFrican roadtrip lives on the South Island there and another friend and I are contemplating it.

Oh, and as a general tip, if you're under 26 or in school, http://www.counciltravel.com is a great resource for international flights. You must call though, their online flight resource sucks.

I do more all-inclusive travelogue sites on geocities if anyone's interested...

Much of our New York trip was shot through a fish eye lens so it does make it that much cooler to check out. Nov. 2002

I still consider myself rather new to VT, however there are a few pages that have really caught my attention.

For my favorite entertaining Travelogue reads, I go to TRAVELINXS .

For her joy of life, I go to GEISHA_GIRL

Others are JENN75 who was nice enough to share VT with me, JIM35 who can do some mean photoshop work, and KODI01 who is another Dallasite I had the opportunity to meet.
