This island belongs to the X Region of Chile.

Lenght: 180 km
Width: 50 km
Population: 124.400 (INE 2002)
Communes: Castro, Ancud, Quemchi, Dalcahue, Curaco de Velez, Quinchao, Puqueldon, Chonchi, Queilen and Quellon.
People is mainly concentrated in Ancud and Castro.

The Island is separated from the continent by the Chacao's canal (2 km of width aprox.)

Fishing is the main economic activity here.

Pros:Beautiful landscapes, friendly people.....it's simply magic!
Cons:Too rainy during winter time

That old wooden church really does have a unique look to it!! The colourful houses remind me of the French Acadian ones here in New Brunswick! Nice page.
