Amsterdam

by Erkmen - last update: Dec 7, 2004

Amsterdam.. The Red Devil.

I dont know the exact number of my visits but suppose this could be the tenth visit to Amsterdam.. But it has left different experiences..

Amstedam is changing quiet a lot and everytime I feel less comfortable in this city... I have never faced with any crime, but each year and after, I feel less relaxed.. A'damese are leaving the city center and the city is almost occopied with foreigners..

The most liberal city in the world, needs some tuning.. Hope they can manage it soon..

Some Major Rules of being a foreigner in a foreigners kingdom:

1)You should speak English, Dont try to find someone who speaks Dutch.. never exists in Amsterdam..

2) You should not speak British English, Brits have a very bad reputation in this city.. This is true...

3) Italians are very welcomed but only if they want "La Bomba".. If you look like them, take care...

4) Centraal station does not mean, Central "Garbage" station or Central "Pissing" station.. Though its more likely, but it is only for trains :)

5) There is no traffic jam.. Since there is no moving traffic.. :) If the cars are not moving, than you are in Amsterdam..

6) If you want to try Dutch wine, than buy a Heineken Can.. it is always better than a dutch wine..:)

7) If you want to drink good beer than follow the road signs leading to Belgium.. :)

8) When in a restaurant, if you leave a tip, than they will think that you are out of this world..:)

9) Dress code is required for almost all Clubs.. But none of them specify the code :))

10) Coffeeshops are not the ideal places to drink Coffee..

11) If you see triple Bulldog sign, it is not because you drank so much but you are near to redlight district where 3 buldog shops are located next to each other..

12) If you see triple El Rancho sign, it is "again" not because you drank so much but you are at leidseplein where 3 different El rancho restaurants located next to each other..

13) If you see triple Red lights, than you are definitely drank... :))

Welcome to Amsterdam
Amsterdam Central Station

A city of freedom

I have been to amsterdam several times, However each and every trip leaves remarkable memories.

Amsterdam is ....... Ohhh no word to exactly explain.

The daylife and nightlife, the atractions, the coffee shops, the train station, Boat trip on the canals, People from hundreds of different countries, The dam square, Shops in Damrak, Red light district.. Are my first memories..
