There are two small, rustic 'resorts' on Lenger Island. Jerry Barbosa's operation has half a dozen small, comfortable huts that sit on stilts at the waterside. There's also a roofed dance floor, a small kitchen, a small meeting hut, and a water catchment. Lenger Sunset Resort, on the western side is similar, and has a long pier and community hut.

Not far away, you can worm yourself into the hillside, which is riddled with Japanese bunkers and tunnelwork from WWII. The vastness of the underground fortifications is staggering, offering huge, eerie chambers to explore deep within the mountain. The locals will eagerly show you the way. Bring a flashlight or two and an adventurous spirit.

Unique Qualities: Lenger's resorts are typical for Pohnpei--cheap and simple. Just a notch up from camping.
