Lenger Island is a medium-sized basalt islet located inside Pohnpei's large lagoon. Located north of Kolonia, Lenger offers camping and resort experiences, snorkeling, fishing and hiking. The place was used extensively both during the German and Japanese occupations during the first half of the 20th century, providing grounds for a thriving copra plantation and sea turtle hatchery. The island was heavily fortified during WWII and pummeled by repeated Allied bombing campaigns. Today, the island is occupied by several families and houses a giant clam hatchery.
