OK The National Aquarium opened its doors in 1990 with modern facilities and an open design in front of the Caribbean Sea beautiful waters. It displays in an almost natural environment over 3,000 living sea animals of more than 250 different species in 90 fish tanks without requiring any artificial controls. The water in the tanks flows directly from the Caribbean Sea a few meters from the Aquarium. It is not only an interesting and complete showcase of marine life in the country and around the world, but also an important center of marine biology research and it provides as well rescue services and treatment for stranded animals. The National Aquarium is a very exciting place to visit, there you'll see a very extended exhibition of tropical and native fishes, also it's very hands on and practical unlike other aquariums in other places in the world. So pick a towel and come down there!

OK. FOLKS! Places that you should not miss if ever visiting the Dominican Republic: #1- ZONA COLONIAL(Colonial Zone): This is a zone that encompasses about some 8 square blocks, of houses, buildings and edifications dating back to the establishment of the spanish colony in the new world (1492) and it's still in actual livable conditions, unlike the rest of the latin-american long gone cultures. #2- ALCAZAR DE COLON: This is the main house of conqueror Alt. Cristobal Colon and later the residency of his brother Gov. Don Diego Colon, you should make early preparations to visit there, since visiting hours change regulary. #3- JARDIN BOTANICO MOSCOSO PUELLO: This is by far the biggest and most varied botanical garden in all latin-america, among some of it's most beautiful exhibits is the Japanese Gardens, you should take a day or two to explore some of it's grounds, it's very extensive! #4- Follows o the next tip:

UNIVERSIDAD AUTONOMA DE SANTO DOMINGO The University of Saint Tomás of Aquino, today Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, was founded under the reign of Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany by the Bula in Apostolatus Culminate. Its shield, in the fourth upper left symbolizes the Imperial Eagle bicéfala of the Hapsburg family. In the fourth upper right the Professorship is found of Saint Tomás of Aquino, disciple of Saint Domingo of Guzmán, founder of the Order of the Dominicos. In the two lower rooms a greyhound appears maintaining a thea among its teeth that sets on fire the Earth Globe, with what symbolizes the vehement oratory of the Order of the Preachers. It tells the tradition that when the mother of Saint Domingo of Guzmán carried him its womb, she had a vision in which a dog appeared setting on fire the land. It is because of it, that when Saint Domingo founded the Order of the Preachers to fight the heresies of the albicenses, its members were called "Dominicanis", that means "Dog of the Lord". On the greyhound there are two branches of laurel and of palm intercross, that represent the triumph of the Order of the Preachers. On these, a star symbolizing a marks of birth that had Saint Domingo in the forehead. All these symbols are framed by the inscription: "Academy of Saint Tomás of Aquino in the Imperial Convent of the Island Hispaniola".
