I live in southwest Alberta, a nature lover's paradise. Flat prairie and spectacular moutains are both within minutes from home. The crown jewel of the area is the often overlooked Waterton Lakes National Park, which together with Montana's Glacier National Park form the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.
There is excellent day hiking available in the quiet park, as well as cruises on Waterton Lake. Some cruises include a stopover at the Ranger station on the U.S. side of the lake. Be warned however, that non-USA citizens are not allowed to proceed along the walking trails at this point (a restriction imposed only after the attacks on the World Trade Centre).
Red Rock Canyon is another must see area of the park, and has many easy hiking trails. |
