Hot pot restaurants
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:

  • Hot pot is amongst the most unique of the Chinese restaurants out here. This is a very cool concept. The servers bring you a big pot with a heater. Water is boiled in this pot. A wide selection of fresh raw meats sliced in ultra thin slices, vegetables, seasonings and noodles is bought to you. You pick up the items and immerse it in boiling water till the extent you need the meat to be cooked.
Once you think this is cooked, you marinate the meats and vegetables in a peanut, soy and chili sauce mixture.
    Finger licking delicious!

Favorite Dish: The thin slices of spicy beef and the grilled green peppers filled with diced lemon pork. We ate and drank till it comes out of our ears and the bill for 5 persons was less than USD50. And this is one of the better restaurants in Beijing.

This hot pot restaurant is even better than the other. They have their own brwerey.
Their slices of beef are so thin that you can eat it raw with the sauce.
Also do not miss the spicy calamari and scallops that they serve.

Favorite Dish: Beef of course - The slices of flank.

  • Restaurant Name: See name in photo

This is one of the more exclusive restaurants in beijing.
It is situated on the edge of a lake in Beijing.
The greatest variety of meat that I have ever eaten in a Chinese restaurant.
great varieties of steak, lamb, bar-b-q pork chops, roasted chinese sweet potatoes, fried calimari and a whole cooked fish.
Not for the first time - did I overeat!

Favorite Dish: The roast lamb joints.
very tender melt in your mouth type.

Ah, yes, China is phenomenal for great gastronomical experiences! And I see the "temporary" art exhibition is still going -- I met one of these "students" too, in 2002... Good show!

It looks like Beijing was a good trip. Where are you off to next??

My similar experience: The art students wanted to 'practice English' and invited me to their school. To my surprise, I ended up ... in an art school, and (no surprise) they showed me their art. They were quite good, and I bought two for $5 or so each.
