The (Most) Marvelous City

by NedHopkins - last update: Sep 4, 2004

A city with everything

Lia: 'Cidade Maravilhosa'
Rio de Janeiro has everything: world–class as well as good quality budget hotels and restaurants; sun, warmth, and great beaches; a vibrant cultural life; a spectacular setting; and man–made wonders.

Yes, it also has poverty, slums (favelas), and crime — but these rarely intrude on a visitor's experience.
The painting in the photograph is the work of Lia Mittarakis Meneses (1934–98). It measures 400x700cm and is located in the Museu Internacional de Art Naïf do Brasil (MIAN).

Pros:"Too much to list briefly."
Cons:"Little that would bother a visitor."
In A Nutshell:"Rio is the most fascinating city I've visited on five continents."

Yes, thank you, a wonderful place. But easier to reach from metro station Carioca.
