BRUGGE AND CHOCALATES

by parsix - last update: Aug 6, 2003

"Minnewater" or Lake Love
I went to Brugge in a city-break in September 2002. Got a cheap flight to Charleroi and from there a train. The journey was only 2h longs.
The city is georugeus, seems like it has not been touched since it's origins. Locals are very proud of their city and a lot of traditions remain.
I enjoy walking, and this city was perfect for it. Altough it was quite cold for my taste, I only got a day of rain.

I stayed at Maldagen, a town 20 min outside Brugge. The Youth Hostel is very good, was recently refurbished when I was there, purpuse built. Buses and trains run in time. I enjoyed staying away fromthe tourist scene and mixing with locals, going to the supermarket, etc

I had a funny incident trying to order chinnese food in a Belgian restaurant where we had no language in common. At the end sign language always work.

I enjoyed the Belfry Tower. The tower has 366 step. They access is quite wide at the bottom but as you get to the top is narrows. They are the original stairs. Mind trying to explaing to some tourist the staircase in oly one way and you should allow others go on the opposite direction. Anyways, this was so far one of the best things of the trip.
This is a beautiful place to spend the weekend.
