ISTANBUL: THERE IS SOMETHING IN THE AIR

Differently to most Istanbul visitors I will not start this page with a Mosque picture, or a veil covered women. It is a cliche and far from the essence of the city. They don't call it a melting pot simply because half the city is in Europe and half in Asia.

Without a doubt Istanbul is elegant and sophisticated. But there is much more to the city than it's magnificent Mosques and suntuous Palaces.

Behind all the the monuments there is a reality that we frequently try to ignore. Istanbul is crowded and overpopulated. Like other emerging market unequal income and wealth distribution was plain to see.

The country has gone through political, legal, and social reforms in the past years to reach a long cherish dream: Joining the EU. Turkey is waiting anxiously.....

There is a younger generation trap in the middle of ideas and beliefs. More and more they looks West. They are proud of their past, but they are ready to move foward.

Turks are a mix of ethnicities and it can't be better reflected in Istanbul. I was truly delighted to watch how different values can coexist peacefully in the same place. Sometimes you think they have more in common with each other than they care to admit.

My Istanbul had many faces. It all depends where you stand from. From the top, with the best night panoramic view in a trendy bar in Besiktas, to the low ground eating fish at the Eminonu port...

The was always a story...
