Oil fields & Zoroastrian Temple

by josephescu - last update: Sep 10, 2006

Azerbaijan = The Land of Fire

ancient and modern fires
Azerbaijan derives his name from the Persian word “Azar” (fire), given to these territories because of Zoroastrian temples scattered all around, with their fires fuelled by plentiful supplies of oil and gas. Azerbaijan means in Persian “the Land of Fire”.

It is said Marco Polo mentioned this Fire Temple in his journey notes.

Another reason to go to Suraxani is seeing the oilfields who support this country.
