Doncaster isn't famous as a tourist destination. But if you're in the area to visit more famous places such as the Derbyshire Dales or the Yorkshire coast it could be worth your while stopping off here. If you're a horse racing fan this is your ideal place - Doncaster's excellent race course is home to the oldest British classic - the St Leger in September. And theres interesting places nearby if you like castles and stately homes.
- Pros:The races, the surrounding countryside, the good road and rail links
- Cons:The town's not that scenic
- In a nutshell:Its the real north

Hi Linda, Thank you for your comment. Hope your student enjoys UK in the same manner as I did during my student exchange. It is quite a long time, but I liked Hants and Dorset very much and I have returned there many times since then.
Haven't ever been in Yorkshire. Maybe next time :-)

Got family in Donny and also been to The Dome several times.
I'd love to see ruins of conisbrough castle! Thank's for mentioning that it is reahcable by rail.
Not been to Doncaster, but as you say Yorkshire has some beautiful places.
