Siliguri: My home town Siliguri is a vibrant town in North Bengal, and it is the gateway to North-East India.
Siliguri is at very close proximity to Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, and I can see Mount Kanchanjunga (3rd highest peak in the world) from my house.
One need to travel for 20 minutes to begin his/her ascent on the Himalayas. Darjeeling (famous for the finest tea) is about 80 kms from Siliguri
and the nearest airport is at Bagdogra (about 12 kms from the town centre). The central railaway station is at New Jalpaiguri (about 4 kms from the town centre).
Siliguri is a big commercial town, surrounded by places of spectacular natural beauty on all sides. Its a major tourist hub, leading to Sikkim, Darjeeling, Assam and the other states of the North East. |
