A UNESCO World Heritage site, Peninsuala Valdes, is called one of the most significant marine reserves in the world. The land itself isn't all that interesting: it's treeless, with hard-to-drive-on gravel roads, and some views to the sea. But, once you're there with a guide, it can provide for a once in a lifetime experience.
Staying at an estancia (La Ernestina) on Punta Norte, I was able to be one of seven people on a colony of 50,000 penguins. Incredible.
well, cows aren't all that exotic, but they're around, too.
- Pros:amazing wildlife, mostly marine
- Cons:not a cheap destination, and hard to get around
- In a nutshell:see this ecological gem before its gone
