| Colorado River, Castle Valley & Lasal Mtns, Utah |
This picture is so typical of the surroundings of Moab in Southeast Utah. First the red sandstone sculpted in mesa or flat plateau, generally graced with canyons, cliffs and weird formations (hoodoos or pinnacles and arches), here shown in Castle Valley. Other examples abound in nearby Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Then a few rivers, here the Colorado (there is also the Green river in Canyonlands National Park) laced with the green of cottonwoods and tamarisk trees. Then alpine ecosystems as islands in the desert, here the Lasal Mountains in the background towards the East (often at the horizon near Moab you also have the Abajos mountains to the South and the Henry's to the West). |

KiKitC Mon Oct 19, 2009 11:40 UTC Yep...we managed to find the spots with less tourists. Even more beautiful there. | DPando Mon Jun 18, 2007 07:54 UTC !! Great man !! thats a good starting point to Arizona canyons !! well done | kmmhike Tue Oct 17, 2006 01:11 UTC This restaurant (Fiesta Mexicana in Moab) is a RIP-OFF!! I ordered a "margarita on the rocks with salt" and was charged $8.95. Apparently you have to specify a "regular" margarita, and if you don't, they will charge you for a "top shelf" drink. | toonsarah Thu Oct 5, 2006 20:08 UTC Excellent page - your photos are great and revived memories of my trip to Utah over 10 years ago :-) |
