The South has the most famous beaches, is drier and less mountaineous than the North.
The northern part of the island is more mountainous and rainy. Its history is dominated by the eruption of the volcano Montagne Pelée which destroyed Saint Pierre in 1902.
Martinique is located in the lesser Caribbean (Petites Antilles in French). It belongs to France. It has a tropical humid weather which is quite pleasant throughout the year, especially on the hills (mornes) where a breeze is always felt.
- Pros:Sea & mountain, beach & hiking, beautiful tropical island
- Cons:Narrow twisty steep roads

Fine photos of this beautiful island. I didn't know they had such a devastating volcano eruption in 1902. (Too bad it was so foggy when you climbed the volcano.)
Started reading and realised you hadn't finished this page. Love what I've read so far - can you let me know when you're done please!
Excellent page!! Very well written with excellent observations and your photos are all superb!! Your trip there was very comprehensive and I enjoyed reading this page!
Wow, I'm dreaming about going there now :-)
Nice page. I´d like to climb that vulcano.
You have a wonderful page here! Thanks for your presentation! ><><><
