Herdubreid volcano, Central Iceland - Iceland

As of August 18, 2003, the Icelandic government has decided to resume whale hunting. I am very saddened by this decision, as I think whale populations are barely recovering from nearly complete extinction and are still too fragile to allow hunting them again so soon. The same comment goes for countries such as Japan, Norway and the US.

Central Iceland desert.

My favorite part of Iceland are the central deserts. Moonlike landscape and glaciers.

Fire and ice, water and rock,...

To access it, you need an all-terrain vehicule, and to camp or use the available huts.

General tips (2):

Icelandic fjord, N Reykjavik

The coast is very green and wet, and of stunning beauty! There is a road going all around Iceland that any type of car, bus or bicycle (if you like to get wet) can take.

I found the food delicious in all icelandic restaurants, especially Reykjavik. Don't miss that lamb (they roam free on the
island) and all the seafood!

Pros and Cons

Pros:Beauty!
Cons:It rains a lot, it's never really warm.
In a nutshell:A paradise for geologists and nature lovers

It is worth the money.. The view is incredible the service was excellent and the lobster bisque was the best I ve ever had in the world.! One of the two best restauraunts in Iceland.!

excellent page with great pics. It really makes me want to go back. It really is a stunning place. I didn't know about the free huts in the middle! Have to try one out if I ever go back!
