Transportation: Siklo
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: The Siklo is a cable car that leads from the Castle Hill down to Clark Adam square (the end of Szechenyi Lanchid) and from the square up to the Castle. It can have a good use when you dont have the nerves to go up to the Hill or to take the croweded varbuz.
The Siklo was built in 1870 and was using steam for its movement, today it uses electric power.
There is also a great view over Pest from the Siklo so you can have a lot of nice pictures.

    Transportation: Nyugati Palyaudvar

    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: This is the east train station... it is also the biggest one in the city, located in the downtown near the major roads a lot of public transportation gets there.
It uses especially the trains from the east and central europe (Germany, Slovakia, Romania, Austria and more) and also the trains from Debrecen get there.
The structure itself was built by Gustav Eiffel and finished in 1877. The station is huge, there is a mcdonalds just near it and the West End just 50 meter away.

    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: The Metro in Budapest is Pretty good for a city in that size but there are still places that it will be hard to get there with it.
Today the Metro consits 3 lines:
Line1 - from mexikoi ut to Vorosmati ter. It is the oldest one and it has a very special look, with small and narrow stations. Its routh is from Pests inner city to east.
Line 2 - from Ors Vezer tere to Deli Palyaudvar.
Line 3 - from Ujpest Kozpont to Kobanya-Kispest. It is in the side of Pest and goes from Ujpest neighborhood at north to Kobanya-Kispest neighborhood at south.
In line 2 and 3 the stations are big and deep and very active, so watch your bags. The Train is coming in avaage between 3-5 minouts. It is croweded especially in rush hours and in city Center.
The prces are a bit high in my opinion, 125 Forint (0.5 dollar) for a trip and a daily or 3 days or week ticket is also available but its not cheap.
There is a very tempting thing in the Subway, you have no obsticle to get to the train so you dont need the ticket. There are almost no controllers who check the ticket but if you will be cought you will pay 1500 Forint...

    Transportation: Ferihegy Airport
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Airplane
Getting TO/AROUND: This is the cities main airport and its situated 24 km east of the city. It is a modern, beautiful and gives a good feeling when you arrive to the city. It is devided to 2 terminals, one to flights of Malev and the second to other companies.
There are plenty of flights to European destination and also some to America and Asia.
When you arrive to the hall there are car rental desks (Hertz, Avis, Europcar...), some changes.
There are some ways to get to the city:
-Airport minibus that will take you to any place in the city for 1800 Forint ( 8 dollars). You have to sign up and wait a few minouts for the bus.
-Centrum minibus that going out every 30 minouts and arrive to Erzsebet ter. It costs 800 Forint (3 dollars).
-Airport bus that is the cheapest way but it really not convenient.
-Taxi is maybe the most convenient but it is also the most expensive and most of the times the drivers will rip you off... the price can get to 5000-7000 Forint (25 dollars).

    Category: Train
    Getting TO/AROUND:
It is one of Budapest biggest train stations, mybe the third. It is situated at Buda in the Alkotas ut.
The station serves especially trains from south of Budapest such the Balaton, Pecs or Szeged and also International trains from former Yugoslavia. In the summer if you go to the Balaton it can get VERY crowded!!!
You can get there by Metro line 2 and i gues that also by Bus and Tram 59 or 61.
The station was built in the communist era so its appearance maybe a bit ugly at the beginning but you will get used to it fast after you find inside some fast food restaurants and also some interesting shops that selling a wide range of items at low prices.
If you will be there by summer you should preaper yourself that you will wait aboiut 10-15 minouts minimum at the line to buy ticket.

    Getting TO/AROUND:
The eastern railway station situated near Baross ter at the intersection of Rakoczi road and Thokoly street. I passed there a few times and it seems a really busy and active area at least at morning and noon. In the zone of the station you can find many hotels, shops and fast fod restaurants.
Most trains that come from west stop at the Keleti, as do trains from Bucharest, Warsaw and Sofia. In the station there is luggage watche (24 hours), money exchange, minimarket and more usual facilities.
The station was built in 1884 and looks very imprssive with its special yellow color and its beautiful white front.
The best way to get to the inner city of Pest is by Metro line 2, you can also walk, Rakoczi road its very likeable!

Getting TO/AROUND: Driving in Budapest is not an easy think, but finding a parking space can be even harder, especially in city Center.
Parking is allowed only in marked places. There are areas with parking meters that accept coins the maximum time that allowed there is 3 hours i think... There are also a few multi-storey parking lots around city Center but there arent enough yet!

Getting TO/AROUND: Budapest as a well devaloped network of trams, you can see that their uniqueness is thier yellow color.
The tram is one of the favorite ways of locals and tourists to get from one place to the other. You can have a pastoral ride (125 Forint) at line number 2 which travels along the Danube at the side of Pest...
