Pattaya is 147 kms s/e of Bangkok, a mere 2 hour drive.
The arrival of American G I`s in 1959 was the beginning of what is the Pattaya of today.I have been to Pattaya twice & enjoyed it both times(1998-2002).
Before I went to Pattaya the first time I had read & heard all the stories regarding the sex industry & for a person who before his first trip had little idea about Pattaya & Thailand in general it was a real eye opener but now 8 years(1st time) & 6 trips later I know that Pattaya & Thailand has got a lot more to offer than I ever thought.
If you are of a judgemental nature you will have a problem with some things you see,I say don`t judge until you know the story or are prepared to be judged yourself.
You can enjoy Pattaya without the "seedier"side just by staying at the resorts away from central Pattaya or by staying at Jomtien which is just over the hill probably a 10 min drive away.(See travelogue for a few pics of Jomtien).
Pattaya is a worthwhile experience just to see that side of the Thai culture |
