MARBELLA AND COSTA DEL SOL

by Frisbeeace - last update: Jul 17, 2004

My day trips from Marbella

Marbella Old Town
The Costa del Sol runs from Nerja down to the southermost point of Spain, Tarifa, basically the coast of the province of Malaga. The coastline alternates many different types of beaches with rocky areas and cliffs as it streches at the foot of a mountain chain that gives protection from the northern winds. Costa del Sol enjoys more than 320 days of sunshine a year with scarce rainfall and an average temperature of 22ºC/72ºF. These conditions along with the easy accesibility were almost perfect to allow a huge development of tourism in this region which brought high quality accommodations, restaurants, nightlife and a booming growth of golf.
Costa del Sol has undergone too much construction so buildings and highways hurt the beach resort feeling that I never had while there. Besides, I found the beaches rather unattractive with coarse grey sand and no surf. We have gorgeous wide beaches in my country so my stay in Marbella was planned as a starting point to make side trips every day to the most interesting cities and sights in Andalucia.

MY SUGGESTED ITINERARIES

As usual, I made some research before the trip and it was somehow difficult to decide what to see, what to leave aside and how to organize my week. My recommended agenda is the following:

DAY 1: Marbella - Puerto Banus
DAY 2: Sevilla
DAY 3: White Villages (Ronda - Gaucin - Casares) and Gibraltar
DAY 4: Tarifa - Tangier
DAY 5: Marbella (free day)
DAY 6: Granada
DAY 7: Mijas - Frigiliana - Nerja - Malaga

I guess that I will build pages for Sevilla, Granada and Tanger but will include tips for the other places in this one.

Pros:"Nice starting point make day trips around Andalucia"
Cons:"Not a vacation at the beach for me"
