Berlin Transportation
Sort by: Most Recent | Best Rated | Author's Order

Transportation: Berlin Card: Not for me
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: The 48 hour card is 16 euros and the 72 hour is 22 euros.

The card is not a good deal if you just use it for public transportation which was our case. Vouchers don´t include discounts or free passes to the major sights and museums (except for Checkpoint Charlie).

A day ticket for public transport for Berlin ABC (Berlin+Potsdam like the Welcome Card) is EUR 6,00. Berlin AB ("only" Berlin) is EUR 5,60. These are day tickets - not 24 hour tickets. Do the math...

Anyway, we´re talking about very small savings so there is no reason to squeeze your brain deciding whether to buy it or not.

Cards are available at S-Bahn ticket offices, the tourist office and some major hotels.

Transportation: Train from Berlin to Prague
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: Berlin - Dresden - Bad Schondau - Decin - Usti nad Labem - Praha

Distance: 370 km. Duration 4.41 hs - Direct

    07.26 - 07.42 - 12.23
    09.26 - 09.42 - 14.23 EC 173 VINDOBONA runs daily
    11.26 - 11.42 - 16.23 EC 175 runs daily
    13.26 - 13.42 - 18.23

First class 79.80 euros, Second 51.80 euros. I am a picky traveller and second class was perfect to me.

Zoo Station (Zoologischer Garten) is the main train station in West Berlin. Ostbahnhof is the main train station in East Berlin. You can travel either one as it makes no difference in price.

You can buy the ticket directly before departure at the station. There is no compulsory seat reservation but you may be asked to leave your seat if it was already reserved.

Get a window seat on the left (in driving direction) side of the train which is more scenic.

Transportation: From Tegel airport to Berlin downtown
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Berlin - Tram from Alexanderplatz
  • Tram from Alexanderplatz
  • by Frisbeeace
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: Tegel Airport (TXL) is 6 km (4 mi) from downtown. Expect to pay about EUR14 for a taxi from the airport to the western downtown area.

There is no direct S-Bahn connection, so use the bus. You can buy a ticket from the BVG office in the airport or from the bus driver. Tickets cost €2.
    • To Zoologischer Garten: take the X9 bus to Zoologischer Garten, the center of western Berlin. From here you can connect to bus, train, or subway. The trip takes 25 minutes; the fare is EUR 3.10, or an additional EUR1 if you already have a regular metro or bus ticket.
    • To Alexanderplatz: Take the TXL bus to Alexanderplatz. It takes about 35 minutes.
Pay the driver since no ticket machines are available at the airport terminal.

    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: During your trip to Dresden and Prague, sit on the left side which is far more scenic.

I just finished my Berlin pages, so I thought I'd check some others out. I wish I'd known about those tours before...ah well, next time. We loved Berlin, too. Thanks for the pages.
