"Pitztal, Austria" Sankt Leonhard im Pitztal by lup

The Pitztal in Austria is a valley in the western part of Austria, about 50 kilometers from Innsbruck.
There's one mainroad into the valley leading from the city Imst to the end of the valley, in Mittelberg. The road comes through all the little villages in the Pitztal, upward from 1000 meter above sealevel up to 1700 meters.
In the Pitztal are 3 ski-ing area's called: Hochzeiger, Rifflsee and Pitztaler Glacier.
During the summer there are many kilometers of walking trails available.

In 2003 we went ski-ing on the Pitztaler Glacier in May. The season here starts middle September through June. We went in May, the quality was great, although in the late afternoon the snow could get a little shabby sometimes, because of the great weather and the hot spring-sun.

In 2004 we went to the Hochzeiger. The mountains here are not as high as the glacier, but the pistes are nicer (in our opinion). Here the season ended on our last day, on april 18th.
