Egypt is an interesting country; there is so much history here that one can get overwhelmed by it all.
I spent three and a half weeks here mainly in Luxor and in Cairo.
The first thing that stood out for me in Egypt was all the little Lipton tea signs just outside the Airport. I was tired from my flight from Saudi Arabia and somewhat cold. Once a taxi was found, I remember seeing all these little signs everywhere. So Lipton tea must be well loved here.
Egypt is very much a Muslim country, although Christianity (Coptic) is practiced as well. It's capital city Cairo is bustling busy which stretches for miles and miles. I have never seen so many little Fiats and Peugeot cars in my entire life.
Egypt is famous for the Pyramids of Giza, once known as Memphis, and is home also to Sphinx, Tutankhamen and it has a history which spans at least back to 900 A.D
Although my time here was brief and I never got to see much of the country. I hope that you will enjoy reading my experiences of what is sometimes called “The Jewel of the Orient” |
