Mountains...

Rocciamelone (m. 3538)

View from Punta Lamet (France)
Hi everybody!
I would like to introduce to any lover of mountains the Western Alps. For sure everybody knows them due to the main skiing resorts located there. But I don't believe that you all know how many different activities can be performed in the area. Currently, I'm far away from home (in Afghanistan with the Army), so, I don't have all my pictures available. But piece by piece I'll do my best to update my homepage in order to show you the less known spots west of Torino.
I'd like to start with Rocciamelone, which is the highest mountain in Valle di Susa, as I worked there, when I still was a teenager, in a refuge called Ca' d'Asti, which is said to be the oldest in Europe.
Here you can practice cross county skiing in winter or trekking in summer (...you can reach the top without carrying any climbing equipment) and, eventually, close your great day eating polenta in refuges located close to the car park area (2450 m. approx.).
Eastern view
This is the view from the top. Torino is far on the left.
The plate roof covers a refuge / chapel which is there so that you can spend the night here and admire beautiful sunsets, dawns and during clear nights, bright stars as it is more and more difficult to see nowadays.
