Truly the end of the earth!

by Marie-France - last update: May 12, 2005

Surreal beauty

Giant icebergs
I had the privilege of travelling to Antarctica last winter on board the expedition ship Explorer. The trip was organized by GAP Adventures (www.gapadventures.com).

Antarctica is a really special place. Not only does it have amazing natural beauty and wildlife, but because it doesn't belong to any country, it has (so far) escaped the nasty violence that's always plagued the rest of the world.

It is a peaceful, quiet, frozen continent, where penguins, seals, whales and birds live undisturbed (well, almost). ;-)

I will be adding more pictures and tips over the next few days, so do come back!

Pros:"Beautiful landscapes, amazing wildlife"
Cons:"You have to cross the Drake Passage!"
In A Nutshell:"A truly unique destination"

Reread your adventure. Some day we'll go as well. Whales are hard to photograph well. Have many photos of swirling water to prove it. Birthday greetings from Alaska!

Oh oh, I tend to get seasick, too. But it might even be worth it to have such an adventure.
