my favorite Istanbul acitivity is to ride the ferries. Not some chi chi ottoman mansion scoping tour but the regular public transit boats. One particular day the fog was as thick as soup, nothing to be seen past several feet but the sounds of numerous fog horns and the air drinkable. Cool moment. Everyone got so quiet. It contributed to my personal sense of Istanbul being inpenetrable.

try to come here late afternoon as I did and watch the sun go down over the Bosphouros and before that look at what you see.
