...do it on a Monday, though. I had one Sunday in Mexico City between two weeks of working travel to other major cities around Mexico.
Coming in on one of the afternoon air-shuttles from Guadalajara, we flew over parks, houses, office buildings, churches, theaters, schools, government complexes, stadiums, restaurants, museums, hotels, avenues, streets, squares.... It just went on and on as far as the eye could see through the haze. With such a lot to choose from, deciding what to do and see with just one day seems impossible.
It *can* be done, though, and here's one way: 1) Begin with an overview 2) Learn how to get around 3) Choose a couple of museums of interest to you 4) Pick one neighborhood to wander through 5) Rest in a park 6) Get a restaurant recommendation from your hotel 7) End the day with something tuneful
Oh, and why not Monday? Because all public museums and parks (even the zoo) are open Tuesday to Sunday.
Now follow me through these seven steps on my one-day independent exploration of Mexico City. Each step represents one Must See tip. |

VeronicaG Sat Sep 2, 2006 02:40 UTC Good warning tips, Marcia! You saw alot in such a short visit--alol of your suggestions would make great stops! THANKS...hello from Texas. | GypsyLightChaser Sat Apr 30, 2005 23:33 UTC Lived in San Angel for three years in a beautiful Villa. I miss it, but not the traffic! Have traveled from the top to the bottom of this country it is fascinating , filled with magic, but also sadly dangerous. | mtncorg Thu Dec 16, 2004 17:41 UTC Nice quick approach to a sometimes unapproachable one. I still like Chaupaultepec on a Sunday for the cultural diversity seen, but the Trotsky Museum is a intriguing choice. |
