Cairo Megacity - Cairo

Cairo is one of the world's Megacities. Nearly 20 million people live in Cairo and 14,000 people arrive every fortnight from elsewhere in Egypt to live here. Cairo is so crowded that 100,000 people live in a converted cemetery, in tombs that now have running water and electricity and one third of the city lives in shanties on the roofs of other buildings.

And all of these people seem to spend the day in the street. Cairo is one of the most bustling busy cities that I have ever been to, every street is 24 hours a day, the roads are crazy, the shops always full and restaurants crowded. Yet there are still peaceful, quiet leafy suburbs - Cairo is a city of huge contrast with loads to explore and experience.

The pyramids. There is not a lot to say about the pyramids save to say that they ARE breathtaking and they are the ONE man made site on this planet I have seen that has been truly awesome. Everyone should see them.
